Talk to Metan Marine owner Mike Borelli for two minutes and you know exactly why he is successfully growing his business: He's excited. He's informed. He's reaching out. He's diversified. He's working hard. In a word, he's pumped.

Borelli started out in the automotive industry, doing mechanical and body repairs. An avid rcreational fisherman, the idea dawned on him that, as he says, "I could apply the same concepts for repairing autos to the repair of boats." Ten years ago he came across a beat-up SeaCraft 23 (7m) center console he though he'd fix up for his own use. Marine Service "Community" Opens in Rockland, Massachusetts
About 10 years ago, Mike and Kim Borrelli of Hanover, Massachusetts, south of Boston, restored a vintage 1974 SeaCraft power skiff. When other SeaCraft enthusiasts saw the boat, a business Metane Marine Restorations was born. It became a full-time operation in 1999, developing what Mike Borrelli calls a "cult following" among SeaCraft enthusiasts from all over the United States. The company restores other boat lines as well, and it performs warranty work for manufacturers and does fiberglass work for local dealers. In May, Metan moved into a new 14,000 sq. ft. facility, with 12,000 sq. ft. of shop space, in nearby Rockland - not far from the old Boston Whaler factory.
