Marine Service "Community" Opens in Rockland, Massachusetts About 10 years ago, Mike and Kim Borrelli of Hanover, Massachusetts, south of Boston, restored a vintage 1974 SeaCraft power skiff. When other SeaCraft enthusiasts saw the boat, a business Metan Marine Restorations was born. It became a full-time operation in 1999, developing what Mike Borrelli calls a "cult following" among SeaCraft enthusiasts from all over the United States. The company restores other boat lines as well, and it performs warranty work for manufacturers and does fiberglass work for local dealers. In May, Metan moved into a new 14,000 sq. ft. facility, with 12,000 sq. ft. of shop space, in nearby Rockland - not far from the old Boston Whaler factory. The sign on the building says Marine Service Center, and Borrelli calls the facility "a marine community" of independent boating-related businesses, all working together. In addition to Metan, the new space is home to Black Diamond Marine Services, which services outboards, stern drives and inboard-outboards, and sells used new and used boats, as well as South Shore Graphix, a company that provides boat lettering and signage. Kentfab Engineering, an aluminum fabricator, also works with the new center. Borrelli says plans are afoot to bring in a marine canvas shop as well. "We're really excited about this. We've worked hard over the past year to be able to offer people a type of service that's well needed in this industry." |
